We were pleasantly surprised by the Altona Hotel. Some budget hotels in Paris can be terrible and we booked last minute after our Eurostar got cancelled and we decided to extend our trip, so we weren't expecting much. We asked for a quiet room, and it really was actually silent. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and the shower was good with constant hot water. Don't get me wrong, it's a budget hotel and it looks it in the communal areas. But the room was actually spacious, clean and safe, we slept well even though it was an extremely hot day, and there was no noise from the corridor or the street. I have a lot of experience of cheap Paris hotels and believe me, this is very rare! The street is actually really nice too and has lots of nice cafés and bars just a few minutes walk away, and you're right on the edge of the 10th (the coolest area in my opinion!) and also really near to Montmartre walking. If you need somewhere to stay that's convenient for the Eurostar and you're planning to be out all day and you're on a budget, you can't really fault it.

Hotel Altona is about 10 minutes walk from Paris Gare du Nord and 10 minutes walk to Montmartre. It's in the lively area where lots of restaurants and cafes but our room was quiet thanks to the double glazing windows. I stayed the hotel with my friend and the hotel provided one double bed and one additional single bed as we requested. Interior was slightly dated, however, USB power sockets are on the bed headboard. Also bottles of mineral water and tea making facility (kettle, tea bags, coffee, milk, sugar and mini Madara cakes) was provided, which is good for travellers especially from the UK! Hotel has a reception and staff is always there and kindly offers luggage storage for free after check-out till our Eurostar departure time, which was really helpful!

For the low price paid, the hotel went well beyond my expectations. The room was comfortable, perfectly clean and fresh, everything worked (hair dryer, etc.). Location and hotel is super silent, the neighbourhood could be better, but on the other hand it gives you perfect transportation options (Metro and for Eurostars users it's just perfect with walking distance from Nord). Typical French breakfast for fair price 6,50 euro is also available. Staff was very friendly and the housekeeping was exceptional for a 2-star hotel (better cleaning than in most of my 4-star stays and they even deliver cookies and bottles of water daily). Overall, if this hotel shows like one of the cheapest options in Paris, book!

We stayed here for our final 3 nights in Paris and were delightfully surprised - the hotel photos in the listing perhaps need some updating, as the room we stayed in seemed recently renovated and was extremely comfortable and clean and modern. The wifi was great and the bathroom was excellent. The twin-brother hotel owners were also very helpful in every way, and permitted us to leave luggage without charge after check-out so we could meet commitments in Paris unencumbered, which was much appreciated. Overall, I would stay here again in a heartbeat - highly recommend!

As other reviews have said, the hotel has seen better days and is quite basic, but for central Paris, maybe 5 minutes walk to Gare du Nord, it's incredibly good value. The room I stayed in could maybe do with some redecorating, but it was very clean and the bathroom looked very new. I had a courtyard room, which was quiet. Street facing might be noisier, but it seems a quiet street. Room still had everything you might want: kettle, tea, coffee, water, biscuits, hairdryer, TV. The staff are lovely.
